V. MOST SIGNIFICANT ACHIEVEMENTS AND DISTINCTIONS:
Zhang made significant contribution in condensed matter theory, especially in theoretical analysis and computation techniques in electronic properties and quantum transport in nanostructures, electron phonon interaction and plasma excitation in quantum wells and superlattices. His main contribution to this field includes: theory of collective models of excitation and electron-lattice interaction in low-dimensional systems, including graphene and carbon nanotubes; method of first principle calculation on the electronic properties of nanostructures; theory and simulation results of phonon emission and absorption in quantum wells and quantum wires; proposal of a new mechanism for thermionic power generation in nanostructures; a new mechanism of nonlinear electron transport; phonon generation in semiconductor nanostructures; quantum tunneling with dissipation; and optical properties of modulated electronic systems.

Prof Zhang published several seminal work in quantum transport of semiconductor nanostructures, plasma instability, nonlinear optical properties of nanomaterials, electronic properties of grapheme and carbon nanotubes, quantum Hall effect. He has published 200+ SCI papers, including 8 in Physical Review Letters, 42 in Physical Review and 23 in Applied Physics Letters, with an H-index of 23 @01/10/2012.
