V. MOST SIGNIFICANT ACHIEVEMENTS AND DISTINCTIONS:
Dr Xu is currently Winthrop Professor and Head of Laboratory in the School of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Western Australia.

He is also a founding Fellow, Faculty of Science, the Royal College of Pathologists of Australia, and has been appointed the President of the Australian and New Zealand Orthopaedic Research Society (ANZORS), and the Chair of the Australia Chinese Association for Biomedical Sciences WA Inc. (ACABS, WA). He became a life member in the International Chinese Hard Tissue Society in 2012.

He has received many awards; including Excellence in Teaching Awards by UWA in 2006; Endeavour Executive Award by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) in 2010; Career Enhancement Award by the American Society of Bone and Mineral Research (ASBMR) in 2005; and Professional Development Award, Aspire program, Western Australia 2012 (http://www.pcb.com.au/our-services/how-we-can-help/pcbaspirewinners. aspx).

Dr Xu has published 77 papers in SCI journals; including PNAS, Mol. Cell. Biol. , J Biol. Chem. , J Bone Miner Res., Am J Pathol, and Molecular Endocrinology, 7 book chapters, 180 conference abstracts, and 3 PCT patents. 21 of his published papers have an impact factor greater than 5. According to Google Scholar, his published papers have been cited over 2000 times.

Biomedical sciences, molecular biology, pathology, bone and joint and degenerative diseases

VIII. VISIONS (related to China and Australia from the area of expertise):
1) Training of young researchers: It is his vision to train young biomedical researchers; including PhD students, and visiting scholars and doctors.

2) Promoting collaboration between Australia and China: He is dedicated to promote scientific information exchange, collaborations between Australian and China in biomedical research and education, and friendship among Chinese biochemical and bioengineering scholars working in Australia and in China.

3) Facilitating technology transfer: It is important to facilitate technology transfer in the area of expertise; including cell lines for drug screening, recombinant DNA, animal models for diseases, genetic modified mice, etc.
