It is my great pleasure and honour to serve the Chinese Australian scholars as the 7th President of the Federation of Chinese Scholars in Australia (FOCSA).
Established in 2004, FOCSA aims to foster exchanges and cooperation in science, technology and education among Chinese Australian scholars, and between Australia and China. Under the leadership of the past six presidents, Professors Max LU, Aibing YU, Min GU, Dongke ZHANG, Shixue DOU and Lin YE, and with strong support from its member associations, FOCSA has to date made highly valuable contributions to the Chinese Australian society and to the cooperation between Australia and China.
The number of scholars in Australia with Chinese origin is increasing and increasing rapidly. The Federation has an obligation to support their development and their integration into the local societies. In my term, FOCSA will seek to play an even more active role in facilitating the development of early career professionals (ECPs) by involving more ECPs in FOCSA activities and by being involved in their activities.
One of the key platforms that FOCSA has developed to achieve its goals is its Biennial Australia-China Symposium in Education, Science and Technology. FOCSA has organized seven such symposiums so far, and I am very pleased to announce that the 8th Symposium will take place in Tianjin, China on Dec 26-29, 2019, to be organised in collaboration with Hebei University of Technology. This is the first time that an FOCSA symposium is organized in China, and I warmly invite you all to contribute to this event.
Last but not least, I would like to sincerely thank my Executive Team and FOCSA Council for their strong support.
